What is Panoply?
Panoply.io is an independent directory of data tools plus the guides and blog that made this domain worth linking to. One page per tool, written by us, with the vendor’s real price, the free tier spelled out and a score we can explain. From 2015 to 2026 the name belonged to a managed data warehouse; that product is gone, and the history is here.
What happened to the Panoply data warehouse?
It was discontinued in 2026 after SQream, which had bought it in 2021, went into insolvency. Nothing on this site is for sale. If you were a customer, the closest replacement is a managed connector tool like Fivetran or Airbyte feeding Snowflake or BigQuery. We wrote up what replaced it, plan by plan.
Which cloud data warehouse should I pick?

ETL or ELT, and which tools do it?
Load first, transform in the warehouse: that’s ELT, and it won. Fivetran or Airbyte move the data, dbt shapes it, Airflow or Dagster run the schedule. The ETL tools chapter has the shortlist and the glossary has the plain-English version.
Which BI tool is worth it?
Metabase if you want dashboards this week and a bill you can read, Looker if governance matters more than speed, and the archive’s top 25 BI tools piece if you want the whole field. Before any of them, Dashboard 101 is the 10 minutes that saves the most money.
Are the prices real?
Every number comes from the vendor’s own pricing page and the card shows the date we checked it. Vendors change plans without telling anyone (Snowflake quietly introduced a second credit rate in 2025), so treat the card as the starting point and confirm on the day you sign.
